'm michelle griego. the san mateo bridge opened all lanes after a deadly accident caused slowing for several hours. gianna has the latest. >> you know, chp said 6:00 they were hoping to have everything reopened and just like clockwork all lanes are now open westbound san mateo bridge. this accident happened at about 3:30 this morning. it was towards the peninsula side as you head into foster city. you're looking live at church. so delays are improving but it's still a backup. we were seeing delays. this two-car crash was reported just as a normal incident at first but again, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. so they have that closure down for quite some time. hopefully things are improving. all lanes are now open. you should use the dumbarton bridge just for the next maybe 15, 20 minutes. things should be good after 6:30. let's jump to the maps. we have a new trouble spot to report westbound 580 at high street. getting word of an accident where a vehicle may have hit a pedestrian in the road. no word yet if it's blocking the main lines of the freeway or if the accident happened on

. everyone is shocked about the loss of the much loved and valued colleague. >> nbc's michelle kosinski is live. what else have we learned about the victim? >> not much. the hospital said that she worked there at king edward the hospital for more than four years. she cared for hundreds of patients. but that's really about it. the hospital isn't even saying the manner of death but according to reports here in the uk, multiple sources say she took her own life and was found on the hospital premises this morning. they tried to revive her but unsuccessfully. the hospital interestingly said that they have been supporting her through this difficult time and telling us that she was having a tough time. we don't know exactly why or what else was going on in this woman's life. but it appears that she did commit suicide on the grounds of the hospital. anyone else who worked with her but people described as stunned, that the news is staggering. one of the things that this prank phone call really highlighted, aside from the fact that it was a breach of security, was the kindness and unsuspecting na

little tummy bug is going. >> michelle is live at the hospital with us for the latest on the story. what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, craig. less than a day ago the world was laughing at this prank, and today it has taken this incredibly, unexpectedly tragic turn. the hospital said that that nurse that originally took the call and transferred it to the duchess of cambridge's ward was found dead. reportedly only a few yards from the hospital. she's a woman in her 40s with two young children. she's apparently taken her own life. here's what the hospital said. >> the hospital had been supporting her through this very difficult time. she was a first class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients during her time with us. everyone is shocked by the loss of a much-loved and valued colleague. >> reporter: they said she had worked here for more than four years. almost immediately the palace responded saying that the duke and duchess are deeply saddened, and the palace wanted to emphasize that no one from the palace or royal family made any complaint against those nurses or the hos

at the end of july buckingham palace today say she is expecting. >> nbc's michelles could inski is in london for us. folks team to be a tad excited about this. >> yeah, it's great news. and also difficult news for kate since she's been feeling so poorly. this morning the palace is trying to maintain privacy surrounding this while she's still in the hospital suffering from very severe morning sickness. the palace did say this is very early in the pregnancy. it's not yet three months. but will not be giving daily updates on her condition. the british press is reporting she's resting, doing okay and has had to be on a drip after being sick for several days. and also allegedly the queen herself did not know about the pregnancy until yesterday when the young couple drove themselves to the hospital. reportedly they were waiting to tell the family at christmas time. certainly this is not the way the palace would have liked ideally to deliver this news. it is very exciting. it's being met with joy and congratulations from around the world. lynn? >> mimichelle, thank you so muc. >>> now a look at you

. in michelle flournoy or ashton carter, there are two very, very qualified people who are waiting in the wings who would be very close to the president, and i think it's entirely appropriate that as a second term begins that the president would look for new leadership especially after secretary panetta's long and distinguished service. jamie: you know, matt, on the one hand i can understand any corporate ceo when they come in, they want to bring in people that are sitting at the major table that they know will be on the same page. on the other hand, it's important in the second administration to reach across the aisle and look for people to fill positions from the republican party. but is this symptomatic, the way the hagel nomination came out and the situation with susan rice of a problem we may have of positions not being filled during critical times? for example, i think about the atf position which has been open for some six months, and i believe it's andrew draver who is the person who president obama selected, and they haven't even set up a hearing for him yet. >> will you make great poi
